New for 2021 - “Mark 2 Junior Series” Plasma Globes

Since we began making plasma globes in 2008, our mission has been to produce large, museum-quality globes at an affordable price. Over the years, though, we have had a significant number of requests for even more affordable globes that would be suitable for casual or younger plasma enthusiasts.

Eventually, we decided to test the waters by making a very limited run of 8-inch globes so we could see if there would be a market for them. We wanted to offer a product that was close to the price range of the mass market globes, but built to the same standards of quality as our large professional models. The result of these initial efforts was our “Emerald Fury Junior” globe, which we released in May of 2020. Customer response was overwhelming, and the success of this globe has prompted us to create the new “Mark 2 Junior Series” with an expanded line-up of effects.

“Mark 2 Junior Series” Details

These new 8-inch diameter Junior globes have been redesigned from the ground up, improving upon the original design of our “Emerald Fury Junior” globes and adopting an expanded line-up of our “Museum Series” effects. The “Junior Series” globes use the same high-quality gas mixtures as our large professional globes. Because of that, the color and action of the plasma effects are just as stunning as those of the larger models, and they are likewise just as interactive.

In an industry first for small consumer globes, we have incorporated adjustable effect capabilities to our new “Mark 2 Junior Series” globes. Like our professional “Museum Series” globes, the plasma effects in our the new “Junior Series” globes can be increased or diminished by an adjustable power switch. This makes the globes much more interactive, allowing you to dial in the exact effects you like best.

Our newly designed custom base is a big step up from those found on consumer globes. The 8-inch globe sits upon a gloss-black plastic base, subtly embossed with the Aurora Plasma Design logo as a mark of authenticity and quality. Like our “Museum Series” globes, we wanted these smaller globes to be just as attractive when they are turned off as when they are on and running.

In addition to updating the globes themselves, we have also upgraded the power supplies from analog wire-wound transformers to new digital switching transformers, which are more efficient and can accept both North American and worldwide voltages. The “Junior Series” globes are powered by a 12V 1000ma power supply, which is twice as powerful as the 500ma power supplies used in consumer plasma globes.

A final note: although we recommend only running your globe while you are around to enjoy it, we have been running several samples of our Junior globes 24/7 for a few months now to prove their longevity, and will continue to run them. Your “Junior Series” globe comes with a limited 90 day warranty exchange period for any globe that fails under normal household usage.

“Promethean Fury Junior” Plasma Effects

The Junior Promethean Fury is a “bad boy,” and we don’t mean it in a good way! Like a gifted child he can be amazingly brilliant and frustratingly stubborn. Unlike the other globes in the Junior Series, he demands special treatment and still does what he wants. We give him 15 volts instead of 12 volts just to get him going and then most times he wants to run at full power regardless of where we set the control knob. You may think we are kidding but we’re not! If you buy this globe be warned that you are in for some erratic behavior. This stunning problem child is unlike any of our other globes. It was supposed to be a junior version of the “Emerald Fury” but it has more of the characteristics of a “Promethean Fire” so we have decided it is a hybrid and named it the “Promethean Fury Junior.”

We would like to describe the low power settings but your chances of seeing them are not good, so we won’t waste your time. What you will see is a very energetic display of pale blue tendrils in combination with thicker slower moving tendrils that start from the center electrode. Often you will see hints of turquoise shading along with the blue colors. Touching the globe with your fingers produces long sustained white streamers. This is all the more amazing given that they are confined to the small space inside the 8" diameter globe. Moving a finger firmly to the bottom of the globe can usually make the vibrant white plasma rope circle around the center tower like a boa constrictor. This effect cannot be accomplished in any of our other globes. If you want to see it you have to put up with the other quirks this bad boy throws at you.

This globe has tons of power due to the increased voltage supply and works very well if you want to try any of the fun experiments that are included in the full color 24page Owner’s Manual that ships with each Junior globe. We just released our new plasma filled Magic Wands. They were designed as an accessory for our professional globes but testing shows that the Junior globes also have enough power to drive them. The wands interact with our globes and have effects that can rival the globes themselves. We noticed that the power knob did have some effect on the experiments so it should be on high for that type of use. If you are, like most of us, concerned when you turn a dial and nothing happens please don’t buy this globe! If, on the other hand, you can put up with life’s little frustrations then give the “Promethean Fury” a shot.

Magic Plasma Wands

With double the power of a regular consumer plasma globe, our globes have power to spare. That extra power will come in handy if you want to try any of the fun experiments that are included in your full-color 24-page Owner’s Manual!

Whereas before you would need a fluorescent bulb to do these experiments, we have come up with something even more exciting. In addition to our “Junior Series” globe, we have now released our newly designed plasma-filled “Magic Wands.” We designed the wands as an accessory for our “Museum Series” globes, but our testing found that the Junior globes also have enough power to drive them! The wands interact with our globes and have effects that can rival the globes themselves in beauty. Find out more by visiting our “Magic Wand” product page.

The globe's power knob does have an effect on the “Magic Wands,” so make sure it is turned to high for this type of use.

Important Notes

All of the pictures and videos on our website were taken in near darkness. The descriptions of the effects are based on observations of the globes in the same near darkness. Just as the Northern Lights cannot be seen during the day, our globe’s effects are best viewed in a darkened environment. Increasing levels of ambient light will wash out the effect colors until they almost disappear under full sunlight.

Also, please be aware that no two plasma globes are exactly alike, and there may be variations in color and effect from globe to globe. We test and compare our globes before selecting the one to be used in our presentations as the best overall examples of their series. We make every effort to photograph and present our globes as accurately as possible, but Videos and Photos on this website should be used solely as a guide to what a product should look like, not as an exact representation. Rest assured your plasma globe will be unique and awesome!

Our “Junior Series” globes are made from very strong borosilicate glass, but even so, glass is glass, and thus the globes are not unbreakable. Please keep in mind that even though our “Junior Series” globes may find their way into the hands of younger Plasma Art enthusiasts, they are not toys! Children do not have the same coordination and motor skills as adults, and can possibly damage the globes with their unbridled enthusiasm. The results of breakage pose no greater danger than that from a dropped glass of milk, but adult supervision is strongly advised to prevent any accidents from happening.

Wanted since a kid!

So glad I put a search into Google instead of just buying some generic plasma globe from elsewhere, the Jr. is incredible, have lived every moment with it so far, look forward to years of enjoyment ahead.

Great product, greater customer service.

Do not buy the cheap "Discovery" chinese brands, pay a little more for much better quality, a product that doesn't blow up and superior customer service.

Almost perfect...

Great plasma globe, great color, great reactions. The shell tends to slide off and the buzzing noise can be irritating after a while.

I can't be sure but I think the buzzing noise you are referring to is the sound of the plasma tendrils striking the glass globe inner wall. The Emerald Fury Jr. gas formula is much harder to ignite than the typical mixture used to create purple colors and so we need to use a higher power supply to create the effects. This results in audible noise which is often referred to as a tinkling sound.
The black shell that is mentioned is not really part of the plasma globe. The globes look their best in a darkened situation but often retailers want to display the globes in their stores where ambient light levels wash out the globe effects. The shell is used to help solve this problem. It is not mentioned in the accompanying Owner's Manual and we consider it to be part of the packaging. If you feel the shell helps in your situation a couple of small pieces of scotch tape will keep it in place.

Burned out in less then 3 weeks

I hadn't even had this globe a month and it burned out. I ran it for about a half an hour at a time for maybe 3 to 4 times a week. Don't get me wrong, I loved it when it was working, it was like no other globe I've seen before. When I emailed them about it they were on it and sent a refund, but I honestly I just want another one. This is not a negative review by any means but it is an honest one. I just happen to get a dud I guess. Don't let this stop you from getting these.

By the time that this customer alerted us to the problem we were sold out of the Emerald Fury Junior globes and told him that we were refunding his money immediately because there was no other option. I am almost positive that I also told him that he could maybe use the refund to buy one of our New Series Jr. globes that should be available in late November. All I can say about receiving 1 Star is that at least viewers will know that are reviews are legitimate.

My Sons 13 bday present

I was looking over all my choices for plasma/ laser lamps on the internet and all of the lamps looked similar and cheap. Then I found Aurora.
I was shocked at the high quality product this specific company was selling. But what I was looking for was a present for my son Ray who is 13, so spending 500$ on one thing wasn’t possible but spending under 100$ on the Emerald Fury jr was perfect!!!!
High Quality, different colors, reaction to touch and music, and made in North America. I am very pleased and he likes it too😀

Thank you for your review, Joseph! Just to be clear, with the exception of our Tesla Globes, our globes are manufactured in China. We provide the gas mixture formulas for the globes and designed the bases and electronics modules. One of the main reasons we have developed a loyal following is that we open, test and inspect every single globe before it is OK'd for shipping. Even with these efforts we still get a small number of globes that don't survive the UPS freight gauntlet but a quick read of customer comments will show that our customer service is second to none.

Mesmerizing

Quite unique. Green plasma globes are not common. It is better enjoyed in a dark room when all lights are off.
The effects are already great when left alone but everything becomes magical when you approach a finger or your hand. One cab fell the energy flowing through.
As expected, the plasma tentacles move quite fast but will gradually slow down as the globe is “broken in”. This is well explained in the overall descriptions of your products.
My son loves it.

Love the green! Nice compact piece. And cordial folks at Aurora :)

Being a repeat client and owner of 2 Promethean Fire 15” globes, I thought it a nice alternative for the Emerald Fury in a Jr. size.

Quite active, and vividly green tendrils, it sits well on a desk with space which wouldn’t fit a 15” version. Nice!

Always have been exceptionally happy with Jerry & Steve at Aurora - wherein they both routinely go above and beyond for me on many occasions.

A+ and 5 stars - thanks folks.
